Overview

The former capital of composite Assam, until 1972, Shillong is now the capital of scenic Meghalaya, in northeast India. Shillong is aptly known as ‘Scotland of the East’ as the rolling hills, and lush landscapes reminded European settlers of Scotland. The city still retains the colonial-era charm in certain areas, although it exudes modernity in every sphere. Often proclaimed as ‘India’s Rock Capital’ because of the great passion for music the inhabitants have, Shillong has hosted quite a number of famous music festivals like NH7 Weekender 2015, Submerge Dance Project, etc. A vacation in this city lets you soak in the beauty of the hilly terrains replete with pine groves and breathe in the mystic and musical air. Popular spots of sightseeing in Shillong include the captivating Elephant Falls, Golf Course, the serene Ward’s Lake, Don Bosco Cathedral, Shillong Peak, Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, etc. The city is also known in the region for its famous educational institutions like Indian Institute of Management, North Eastern Hill University, National Institute of Fashion Technology, St. Edmund’s College, St. Anthony’s College and a few public schools.

Tour Plan

Day 1 - Arrival

Arrive at Guwahati airport, received and transferred to hotel, later afternoon you can enjoy a boat ride in The River Brahmaputra. Overnight stay in Guwahati

Day 2 - Guwahati - Shillong

Today after breakfast, visit the Kamakhaya Temple and the Umananda Temple. Drive down to Shillong (130 km / 3 hrs drive), en route stop at the scenic views of the Umiam Lake (the largest manmade lake in Northeast India), reach Shillong and check into hotel, overnight in Shillong.

Day 3 - Shillong - Cherrapunjee

Today after breakfast, we drive to Mawllynnong to explore the cleanest village in Asia and also trek for 10 min to visit the Single Decker Living Root Bridge in Riwai village. Visit the Bangladesh Border (Dawki & Tamabil) where you can enjoy boating. Drive to Cherrapunjee and enjoy your overnight stay.

Day 4 - Cherrapunjee - Shillong

Today after breakfast we set out to explore Cherrapunjee. Visit the Nohkalikai Falls (the fourth highest falls in the world), Mawsmai Cave, Dianthlen Falls and Krem Falls. Further, drive down to Shillong (56 km / 02 hrs drive), and visit the Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak (the highest point in Meghalaya. In the evening, explore the local market in Shillong, overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 5 - Shillong - Kaziranga

Today, post breakfast, get transferred to Kaziranga National Park. Upon arrival, check in into an eco-camp. The evening is at leisure. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Day 6 - Safari at Kaziranga National Park

Early in the morning, head out to enjoy an elephant ride on direct basis(timing 5:00 AM/ 06:00 AM/ 7:00 AM). Return and head out for a yummy breakfast. Post breakfast, head for a Jeep Safari (timing 8:00 AM / 9:00 AM) and come back for lunch later. Post lunch, head out to enjoy another Jeep Safari in the western part of the park for 02 hrs. The evening is free for leisure; you can head out to explore the local village. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Post breakfast, proceed to Guwahati for your journey back home.
