Overview

Kumarakom is a lovely little village in the Kuttanad region of Kerala. Often referred to as the rice bowl of India, Kumarakom has evolved from a fertile land of farmers to a beautiful village that draws several tourists from all over the world. Most tourists come to Kumarakom to enjoy the serenity and splendour of the famous backwater cruises available here. There are several other interesting places to visit in and around the village. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is truly a birdwatcher’s paradise. It is home to kingfishers, woodpeckers, and owls among others. Several migratory birds such as the Siberian crane can be spotted here as well. The Kumarakom Beach is another tourist hotspot that offers many sporting activities. In addition to swimming, you can also indulge in a lot of adventure activities like boating, parasailing and windsurfing. The resorts around the beach are famous for their Ayurvedic massages and spa treatments. The Bay Island Driftwood Museum holds many unique collections of articles made from driftwood. Also, worth visiting is the beautiful 1000-year old mosque, Juma Masjid.

Tour Plan

Detailed Day Wise Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Cochin

Upon arrival in Cochin, a Yatra representative will be waiting to greet you and take you to the hotel. Cochin, located at the shore of Arabian Sea, is given the moniker 'Queen of the Arabian Sea'. Surrounded by the Western Ghats on the east and Arabian Sea on the west, it is one of the coveted tourist destinations of South India.

On arrival, check-in at the hotel and rest. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2 - Drive from Cochin to Thekkady (195 km/approx. 6 hours)

Check-out from the hotel and leave for Thekkady. It is home to the Periyar National Park, which is spread over an area of 925 sq km.
With rich flora and fauna, this place is a paradise for wildlife lovers and photographers. Other than this national park, some of the other attractions of this place are Surki Dam and spice plantations.

On arrival, check-in at the hotel and rest for a while. Later, go for a safari in the Periyar National Park and enjoy spice plantation tour (surcharge). Some of the popular spices grown in this region are cardamom, clove and pepper.

Retire to the hotel in the evening for an overnight stay.

Day 3 - Sightseeing in Thekkady

Get ready for an adventurous day in the Periyar National Park. Involve yourself in numerous activities, including bamboo rafting, border hiking, rock climbing and trekking. Admire the wildlife and soak yourself in the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. A boat ride (surcharge) in the beautiful Periyar Lake adds to the fun and makes the trip even more memorable.

After enjoying the entire day at the Periyar National Park, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4 - Drive from Thekkady to Kumarakom (156 km/approx. 5 hours)

Leave the hotel for Kumarakom. It is a famous tourist destination, widely-acknowledged for its backwaters. Away from the chaos of the cities, serene environment and fresh breeze of this hill station helps unwind and rejuvenate. Some must-visit sights in this place are Lake Vembanad, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls.

On arrival at this exotic destination, check-in at the hotel and unpack. Later, leave the hotel for a sightseeing tour of this beautiful place. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 - Day at Leisure in Kumarakom

Embark on a sightseeing tour of Kumarakom. This place bestowed with misty mountain peaks, rich flora and fauna and serene lakes attracts tourists from all round the world. Other than sightseeing, tourists can indulge in numerous activities, including fishing, meditation, yoga, swimming and boating out here.

Return to the hotel in the evening and stay overnight.

Day 6 - Depart from Cochin
